Practice is how we turn knowledge into abilities. It’s also the step where we’ll spend most of our time. Learning and mastering a skill takes many hours of practice; that’s the process. We can’t escape that reality or take shortcuts, but we can use the principles and strategies we explored in this chapter to optimize our practice and get the most out of it.

Moving forward, we want to use our skills. We want to perform, compete, or simply enjoy doing what we’ve learned. But going from isolated practice and drills to performance is a big jump.
